Aboriginal Rock Art

Students will investigate Ancient Australian Aboriginal rock art, including its use of "X-ray style" and dot painting, and create their own drawings or paintings using these techniques to depict native animals or stories. We will discuss the cultural significance of this art, including how it records stories, beliefs, and aspects of the natural world. Students can choose a native Australian animal to draw or paint, using a "cave painting" style by using pastels to simulate the effect of applying pigments to rock surfaces. Dot painting techniques can also be incorporated to add texture and detail.
